    Program Overview

    This one-year fellowship equips anesthesiologists with specialized knowledge and practical skills to manage anesthesia in neonates, infants, and children. The curriculum focuses on age-specific physiology, pediatric pain management, perioperative care, and critical care principles tailored for pediatric patients.


    Course Curriculum (12 Modules, 12 Months)

    Module 1: Fundamentals of Pediatric Anesthesia

    • Pediatric anatomy and physiology: cardiovascular, respiratory, CNS

    • Age-specific pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

    • Preoperative evaluation and fasting guidelines

    • Pediatric anxiety and behavioral management

    Module 2: Equipment and Monitoring in Pediatric Anesthesia

    • Pediatric-specific anesthesia machines and circuits

    • Monitoring parameters: pulse oximetry, capnography, BP, ECG

    • Airway devices: face masks, LMAs, ETTs (uncuffed vs cuffed)

    • Fluid and temperature management

    Module 3: Pediatric Airway Management

    • Airway assessment and classification in children

    • Bag-mask ventilation and endotracheal intubation

    • Use of video laryngoscopes and fiberoptic bronchoscopy

    • Management of difficult and failed pediatric airway

    Module 4: Anesthesia Techniques and Agents in Pediatrics

    • Inhalational induction and IV induction protocols

    • Maintenance with volatile agents, TIVA (Total IV Anesthesia)

    • Regional anesthesia in children: caudal, spinal, epidural

    • Sedation protocols for diagnostic and minor procedures

    Module 5: Anesthesia for Pediatric Surgical Subspecialties

    • Anesthesia considerations for general surgery, ENT, urology, and orthopedics

    • Neurosurgery and cardiac surgery in children

    • Laparoscopic surgeries and day-care anesthesia

    • Pre- and post-operative care for high-risk pediatric patients

    Module 6: Neonatal Anesthesia

    • Neonatal physiology and anesthetic implications

    • Common neonatal surgeries (TEF, CDH, NEC, pyloric stenosis)

    • Fluid, glucose, and thermoregulation in neonates

    • Postoperative apnea and extubation protocols

    Module 7: Pediatric Pain Management

    • Pain assessment tools in different age groups

    • Acute and chronic pain management in children

    • Use of opioids, NSAIDs, adjuvants, and PCA

    • Multimodal analgesia and regional blocks for pain relief

    Module 8: Pediatric Intensive Care and Emergency Response

    • Management of critically ill pediatric patients

    • Pediatric CPR (PALS), code blue, and resuscitation algorithms

    • Mechanical ventilation in pediatric ICU

    • Transport and stabilization of critically ill children

    Module 9: Anesthesia for Special Pediatric Populations

    • Children with syndromes, autism, developmental delay

    • Anesthesia in children with congenital heart disease

    • Renal, hepatic, and hematologic disorders

    • Obese and malnourished children

    Module 10: Pediatric Anesthesia Complications and Risk Management
